Spec-checked motorcycle gear

Motorcycle gear, chosen on the spec sheet.

Helmets, jackets, gloves, armor, boots and comms — every safety pick cross-referenced against DOT, ECE 22.06 and SNELL. We read the certifications and the lab data, and we tell you plainly when to skip one. We don’t fake crash tests.

Seven ways in — from the helmet that matters most to the intercom that’s the fun upgrade at the end.

  • Motorcycle Helmets

The most important thing you'll buy — compared on certification (DOT, ECE 22.06, SNELL), weight and fit, not marketing.

  • Motorcycle Jackets

Mesh, leather and touring jackets compared on airflow, weather protection and the CE armor that actually comes in the box.

  • Motorcycle Gloves

Summer, winter and all-round gloves compared on protection, cuff length and airflow — the gear people skimp on and shouldn't.

  • Body Armor & Protection

Back protectors, chest protectors and armored jeans — compared on the CE rating that actually decides how much they protect.

  • Motorcycle Boots

Sport, touring, adventure and budget boots compared on ankle protection, waterproofing and how walkable they actually are.

  • Rider Comms & Electronics

Bluetooth and mesh intercoms compared on network type, range and audio — plus the Cardo vs Sena decision everyone gets stuck on.

  • Gear Guides

Plain-English guides to the things that actually decide safety — helmet certifications, sizing, and how to kit up as a new rider.

Why trust a gear site that hasn’t crash-tested anything?

Because we don’t pretend otherwise. Most “we tested 40 helmets” roundups can’t prove they did. Here is what we do instead — and it’s checkable.

We lead with the certification

Every helmet and armor pick names the standard the maker publishes — DOT, ECE 22.06, SNELL or a CE level — read from the listing on a dated visit, never from memory.

We flag roost vs impact

Most 'chest protectors' are roost deflectors (EN 14021), not impact protectors (EN 1621-3). We tell you which is which, because buying the wrong one is dangerous.

Prices are live and dated

Numbers come from a daily retailer check and carry the date they were pulled. If the check stops, the price disappears rather than going stale.

Every safety claim is sourced

Statistics and standards link to NHTSA, the federal helmet rule, the UNECE regulation, the Snell Foundation, and independent labs like MotoCAP and SHARP.

We say when to skip

A pricier helmet isn't automatically safer. Where a cheaper or better-fitting option wins for the rider, that's our pick — commission doesn't decide it.

No fake reviews or lab claims

No invented testimonials, star ratings, or 'in our testing' claims anywhere. Our author is a genuine enthusiast, framed honestly — no fake credentials.

How this site is funded

Apex & Armor is free to read because some of the links to gear are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. It never changes which gear we recommend — the reasoning is the same whether a link earns us anything or not.
